JNL6101   Work Based Dissertation   (60 credits)

Year Running: 2016/2017
Credit level: F7
Pre-requisites   JNL6028   JNL6029

Description

Within media industries there is an increasing emphasis on enterprise and entrepreneurial skills. This module will give students the opportunity to be embedded within a local social enterprise organisation during the summer and produce a work based dissertation. We envisage that students will be working approximately 20 hours per week for three to four weeks within the Social Enterprise Organisation (SEO). Students will be taught methods and processes of media campaigning with a view to developing strategic communication activities that will meet the objectives of the organisation in which they are embedded. The resulting portfolio of work will be submitted instead of the traditional dissertation. This module also recognises an increasing requirement within the communications industry to base communications strategies upon sound scholarly research, as such the work based dissertation may consist of a major piece of communications based research submitted again with a reflective narrative. The option of submitting substantive work based research or a portfolio of activities, both with a reflective narrartive, therefore allows for flexibility for both student and SEO.
